The YONG Foundation

The YONG Foundation has shown its support and sympathy for the Queensland flood victims by generously donating Ten Thousand Dollars to the Premiers relief Fund.

This money will be utilised to help those people effects by the floods to recover their lives as quickly as possible in the most practical ways.

We hope that our contribution along with the gifts so many other Australians helps those people.

Interest Rates

Good news, as expected the RBA left interest rates unchanged at 4.75 per cent.

With the ongoing devastation caused by the recent floods and the subsequent recovery costs to the economy there will be a lot of pressure on the Reserve Bank to keep interest rate low.

There is little doubt that the Consumer Price Index will rise as a result of the floods, especially in the initial period where the costs involved in the supply of everyday items will go up. This should stabilise as new suppliers are sourced and economical transport methods are available again.

There will also be a long term effect. All the repairs to the damage must be paid for.

These costs will have both a short term and a long term effect on the CPI The traditional benchmark used by the Reserve Bank when setting interest rates.

The Reserve bank however need to differentiate between compulsory expenditure (such as I have outlined above), and voluntary expenditure, where the expenditure of ‘spare cash’ causes a rise in prices.

Unless the Reserve Bank does this they will simply add a greater burden o those whop can least afford it.
